BE NOT WEARY
IN WELL DOING

Doing the right thing does not always produce an immediate, visible result. You may pray for someone, share the Scriptures, help a neighbor, or faithfully carry out a responsibility and wonder whether any of it is making a difference.

God knows that we can grow weary while doing well. Notice that the verse does not rebuke us for doing the wrong thing. It encourages us to continue doing the right thing when weariness begins to settle in.

Look at the words “in due season.” Planting and harvesting do not happen on the same day. A farmer does not abandon his field because he sees no crop the morning after he plants. There is work to do while he waits, and the waiting does not mean that the planting was wasted.

The surrounding passage speaks of sowing to the flesh and sowing to the Spirit. Then verse 10 brings the instruction into everyday life:

“As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

While we wait, there are still people to help and opportunities to do good. We do not have to see every result to obey what God has plainly told us.

Perhaps this week you need to take a breath, open your Bible, and return to the responsibility God has already placed before you. His promise gives you reason to continue, even when the results remain beyond your sight.
